She was studying in divine high school Mumbai. After passing her school examination she went to Parle College and did her BSC in microbiology. Then she stooped her study and start working as an actor in 1984. She started her acting by playing the key role of Gauri in Abodh which is a Bollywood movie. The first film fare award was received by her in 1990for her film Dil in which she played the role of Madhuri Mehra. A show was also hosted by her in 2002 Kahin Na Kahin I hai and this show was aired on Sony TV. She is also a famous and talented singer and a lot of songs were sung by her such as kaahe chhed song for film Devdas in 2002, Sonya mil JA for movie Aja nachla in 2007 and range Sari gulabi for movie Gulabi gang in 2014.
